Our Meetings
Our monthly group meetings offer something unique; a safe environment to share your story, feel understood, and gain perspective by listening to others with shared experiences. Our meetings are for anyone who could benefit from knowing that they are not alone in living with bipolar disorder.
Meetings follow a predictable format beginning with coffee and informal chat. This is an opportunity for newcomers to connect with one of our facilitators who will outline how the meeting works and help you to feel comfortable in your new surroundings.
The formal part of the meeting commences with the Chair reading out any notices which may be of interest to the group. The main body of the meeting takes one of two paths, either an open group discussion where attendees can raise any bipolar related topic, or a presentation delivered by a guest speaker, concluding with a question-and-answer session.
We understand that stepping into a room full of strangers can feel quite intimidating. You may wonder what to say, how much to share, or whether others will relate to your experiences. Remember that every person in the room took the same brave step that you are about to take. If you tend to be a listener, you only need to share when you feel comfortable, participation is always your choice, and every attendee is viewed as an integral part of the group. We have group guidelines in place so that everyone who wants to share has the chance to do so.
Our support group is founded on empathy and shared experiences; all you need to do is attend, listen, and be open to growth. Approaching with an open mind, prepared to both learn and offer support, helps build trust and meaningful connections among members, making your experience even more rewarding.
